9 Steps From Idea To Beatport Top 10

Monday, 07 May 2012

Every musician eventually develops their own style; we call it their "sound". Sound in this context is a set of methods and techniques that contribute to a certain definitive musical style. Today I want to talk about the steps I used to produce a track from beginning to end. I will use perhaps my most unusual track, India Sleeping.

This track was released on the UK label "Standard Audio" in 2010 and in less than 2 weeks reached the Beatport dubstep TOP10. In most of my productions I usually prefer to make a fat bassline and very loud and punchy drums. India Sleeping is the antithesis of my favourite way to make music. Here I used a cello for the bass line with a bold sub bass made of a single sine wave. But let’s start at the beginning.

In this video, I want to talk about processing vocals. Not about simple compression or EQ, as this basic information can easily be found on the Internet. I want to talk about pitch processing - adjusting the notes.
Since our voice is a living instrument, which each of us have, you should enjoy singing. Many people know that it's not easy to get the pitch right, and it often spoils your whole composition.
